Important information if you are interested in feeding your dog or
cat healthy foods
The Bad News:
- A "must read": Food Pets Die For by Ann N. Martin. She is to
the pet food industry what Rachel Carson was to the petrochemical pesticide
industry.
- Did you know that meat meal is rendered product from animal
tissue, and need not state what animal. Any mammal can be used, diseased
or not. I was shocked to learn this.
- Poultry by-product meal: This can be ground, rendered parts
of the carcasses of poultry. Necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, intestine
and birds that are condemned for human consumption. Who would think
this would be permitted?
- Rendering facilities cook up what is known as "4-D" (dead, diseased,
dying and disabled animals), road kill, material from slaughterhouse
facilities that has been condemned for human consumption such as rotten
meat from supermarket shelves, restaurant grease and garbage. They sell
it to pet food companies and feed mills. Euthenized pets are mixed with
the above, along with pet collars, tags, flea collars. Even the plastic
bags in which the pets are wrapped are not removed before they are shoved
into the rendering pit.

The Good News
It is extremely important to know the ingredients in your pet's food.
- At My Natural Dog, we only carry pet food that has 100 percent
human food grade ingredients and nothing else.
- None of the foods we carry is affected in the recent pet food
recalls.
For example, here a few facts about Solid Gold Pet Foods:
- Solid Gold Hund-N-Flocken ingredients are USDA choice, range-fed lamb
and USDA Grade I and II grains. The lamb is free of all hormones, medication
and the grains are free of pesticide.
- There are no chemical preservatives. It is sold in hermetically-sealed
bags. The bag is completely airtight, providing the same effect as vacuum
packing.
